The Global Studies minor is an interdisciplinary program, requiring a minimum of three credits of study abroad, through which students can examine the pressing issues confronting today's world.

The Global Studies minor is open to all undergraduate students who wish to increase their knowledge and competencies by adding a formally recognized global dimension to their program of study. Students may use the Global Studies minor to help steer their choice of electives; to provide a global studies foundation associated with their major; or to expand their future opportunities on the basis of acquired international knowledge, intercultural proficiency, and global awareness.

Because the Global Studies minor builds upon the University's existing "Global Interdependencies" and language requirements, students need only 20 credits beyond the General Education requirements. Some or most of these credits may also count toward other General Education requirements or for a given student's major(s) and other minor(s).

The increasing interdependencies among societies around the world is indisputable. As a society, we are increasingly aware of the ways global trends and processes reach beyond the confines of local, regional, national, and even international boundaries. Binghamton University's Global Studies Minor offers students important academic preparation for recognizing and exploring the ways interrelated processes fit with the challenges of the 21st century. The Global Studies minor has a flexible curriculum aimed at preparing global graduates for entry into a diversified world full of complex challenges and opportunities.

Planning Your Global Path

When you visit us, we'll help you select your courses from the following:

• Language Study and Use - 3rd semester level or higher (3 credits)
• Global/International Content - a 200-level or higher non-language course (3 credits)
• GLST 390 - pre-departure online course (1 credit)
• Study Abroad Experience - apply credits earned abroad here (3 credits)
• GLST 392 - online course during study abroad (1 credit)
• Any combination of courses: Language Study and Use, Global/International Content courses, and/or Study Abroad Experience (5-7 credits)
• GLST 490 or 492 - capstone seminar (2-4 credits)
